Hotel Review: Hilton Kuala Lumpur

When a hotel is family-friendly, like we recently experienced at Hilton Kuala Lumpur, it makes the stay very enjoyable and stress-free for us parents and subsequently maximizes enjoyment for the family unit as a whole.

Hilton KL is well-known as a luxury 5-star hotel offering top notch accommodation and hospitality, boasting a total of 10 restaurants and bars, and fantastic fitness and leisure facilities. The hotel is conveniently located right next to the Nu Sentral shopping mall as well as the KL Sentral train station, with KLIA a mere 28 mins via the direct high speed train (KLIA Ekspres).

During the recent Easter school break, our family spent some time at Hilton KL for a staycation. Upon arrival, we were ushered up to the Executive Lounge for check-in. We stayed in the newly refurbished Executive Deluxe Rooms on Level 35, with a view of the KL city skyline. The room is spacious and easily housed our young family of four. The modern yet luxurious decor makes for a very comfortable living space.

Feeling right at home

The room was well-equipped with two twin-sized beds, and 42" plasma TV, which comes with kid channels - very handy for rainy days. The soundproof rooms and blackout blinds, along with the comfortable beds ensured we all experienced a good night's sleep. There is also an ergonomic chair with work desk should you bring along your own laptop, as well as an in-room safe, mini bar and coffee/tea making facilities.

The bathroom is my favorite feature of the room, with its bright interior and luxurious white marble tiles the huge bathtub, separate rain shower cubicle and partitioned toilet, not to mention designer toiletries from Peter Thomas Roth.

All Executive Rooms and suites are entitled access to the Hilton Executive Lounge on Level 33 with additional perks such as complimentary WiFi, complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea, all-day refreshments, and evening cocktails. The space is beautiful, elegant and serene. We had our breakfast here on both mornings as we enjoyed the Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale so much, perfectly cooked to order on each occasion.

Fresh juices, lovely pastries, and great selection of fresh fruits too

A definite highlight of our stay was the water slide at the freeform pool area. Our kids literally had hours of fun and laughter going down the slide, stopping briefly to go for meals and then it was back to the pool. This meant that we could just chill and relax by the pool whilst taking turns to keep an eye on our children.

Our children love to spend time in the pool, add a water slide into the equation and our job as parents was made very very easy in terms of keeping the children entertained.  BabySumokids managed to entertain themselves for several hours over the course of our staycation and both of us too, with their laughter and excitement , as they happily took turns to enjoy the water slide.

There is also a spa and gym on Level 6, however we did not have time to make use of these facilities during this action-packed stay.

With 10 bars and restaurants to choose from, it definitely was a haven for a foodie like myself. You can literally eat in a different restaurant every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, thanks to the vast amount of dining choices. We had the pleasure of dining at several of their restaurants, including Chambers Bar & Grill, Chynna, Graze, Iketeru and The Lounge (Click on restaurant names for the detailed reviews).

Vasco's is the hotel's innovative all-day dining restaurant designed with an al fresco urban park feel. Executive Floor guests are also welcome to enjoy an extensive buffet breakfast spread at Vasco's, however we opted for breakfast at the Executive Lounge as it is less crowded. Boardwalk is the poolside bar whereby you can enjoy a casual snack, refreshing drink or premium Haagen Dazs ice cream.

Chambers Bar & Grill offers a selection of prime meat cuts dry-aged in a custom-designed Himalayan Salt Tile Dry Aging Cabinet. The Wagyu Tomahawk here was impressive, both in terms of size and flavour - we loved it!

For authentic pork-free Cantonese cuisine, pay a visit to the award-winning Chynna restaurant. Local ingredients are used to recreate well-known favorites and develop innovative cuisine. We had dim sum here for lunch, and they were exquisite. You'll also be able to catch the Resident Tea Master, who is bound to impress with his tea-pouring skills.

Graze is a casual-dining restaurant which prides itself in serving modern European cuisine with fresh, seasonal produce. We had a taste of the Spring menu as well as sample their wide range of European cheeses.

Iketeru serves both modern and traditional Japanese cuisine in a serene setting. In the restaurant, you will find a sushi counter and teppanyaki grill as well as private tatami rooms. For a unique culinary journey, leave it in the hands of the experienced chefs which will prepare an omakase dinner for you.
Every Saturday and Sunday (for lunch), a Weekend Bento Menu is available - these are excellent value for money.

The Lounge is lovely place for casual drinks, snacks as well as afternoon tea. Over here, the afternoon tea is served in an elegant three-tier "bird cage" set, featuring delicate and beautifully made pastries, savouries as well as scones.

Til this day, our kids still fondly recall their pool moments at Hilton KL as well as all the delicious food they had the pleasure of sampling. We would highly recommend this hotel to any families looking for a staycation or vacation in KL.
