Killiney Kopitiam, Purvis Street, Singapore

I had a long lie in our hotel room while Hubby had his breakfast at Cafe Swiss. Then, he accompanied me to Purvis Street for a local breakfast. Our original plan was to have breakfast at YY Kafei Dian, but it was absolutely packed with customers and I am one who does not like queuing for food. So we went to Killiney's Kopitiam just down the road instead. Glad that we came here as we had a really nice, leisurely breakfast here.

Killiney Kopitiam was first established in 1919 and is one of the oldest Hainanese coffee shop in Singapore. They have English menus here, so ordering is easy. You will need to place your order at the counter, pay and they will serve you at your table. They have a pretty vast selection, including French toast, nasi lemak, chee cheong fun, otah, porridge, mee rebus, laksa and prawn noodle soup.

I ordered the mee siam (S$4.10), kaya toast (S$2.20), half boiled egg (2 no. for S$1.60) and a kopi for Hubby (S$1.60). Everything tasted good and the ambiance is of an old-school kopitiam. I enjoyed the mee siam, which was an excellent combination of sour, spicy and savoury flavours.

A local breakfast is complete with some kaya toast and half boiled eggs! Nicely done.
