Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine, Melaka

Nyonya food was one of the first things on our list as we made plans to visit Melaka. Due to various recommendations from friends and blogs, we decided to visit Restoran Nyonya Amy (Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine). On our first day, we decided to try our luck and went there without making reservations but sadly the restaurant was booked out for the whole evening. Promptly, reservations were made for the next day's lunch, and we definitely did not regret that decision!

We went for an early morning walk to look around at some sights we missed on the day before and also to work up an appetite for lunch.

We were amongst the first few customers at Amy that day, as we wanted to have an early lunch and check out from the hotel early. Service was prompt and friendly. Amy herself came out of the kitchen to tell us that she was missing ingredients for ikan asam rebus and recommended a prawn dish for us instead. A very nice personal touch we thought!

We ordered pai tee (RM1.50 each), ayam pongteh (RM18), kangkung belacan (RM14, large), telur dadar cincalok (RM6), udang lemak nenas (RM38) and cendol (RM2.80) to finish. All dishes were very well prepared and tasty.

We enjoyed the crispy pai tee and the ayam pongteh had a really great sauce that you could eat copious amounts of rice with. The udang lemak nenas had a creamy, mildly spicy sauce and the prawns were fresh. The less illustrious dishes such as the kangkung belacan and the telur dadar cincalok also shone, giving weight to the idea that it is in the small details that make good things great. The cendol rounded off an excellent meal, that left us wanting more and planning the next visit to Amy's.

Baby C is all smiles. We don't know if it's the pai tee or the ice lemon tea!
