Lamb Promotion @ Gobo Upstairs, Traders Hotel KL

It's September and it's all about lamb at Gobo Upstairs in Traders Hotel KL this month. Lamb is one of my favorite meats, and I was excited to see what Chef Kelvin Kilin had put together for this promotion.



We ordered everything from the promotion ie. 2 appetizers, 1 soup and 3 mains to share. To start, we had the New Zealand Lamb Puff  (RM28) and New Zealand Lamb Ball (RM28). The lamb ball was really tasty, and was one of our favorite dishes of the afternoon. It was well-flavoured and juicy. The slightly tart caponata (eggplant stew) went really well with the meat ball.

The lamb puff was also good; although we spent quite some time photographing the appetizers, I was pleased to find that the puff pastry remained crisp. The buttery pastry was filled with braised, shredded lamb and served with caramelised onions and mushroom sauce.







Harira (RM26) is a traditional Morrocan soup - the soup was pretty light and nicely spiced, with small chunks of minced lamb, chickpeas, tomatoes and pine nuts.


For main course, we had the lamb rack, lamb loin and braised lamb leg. The star dish (for me) was the lamb loin - the plating was exquisite, the lamb was a beautiful medium, and all the ingredients on the plate complemented each other very well (smooth pumpkin puree, crispy arancini, roasted cauliflower).

The lamb rack was served with golden potatoes, asparagus, vegetable spaghetti (ie julienned carrots), artichoke and coriander pesto. Can't fault the plating, beautiful as always, however it would taste even nicer if it came with some sauce.

The braised lamb leg came with mashed potatoes, crispy onion rings, zucchini, carrot, and mint infused lamb jus. All dishes are made using New Zealand lamb.

This lamb promotion is available for dinner only, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm daily, from 1 to 30 September 2015. Prices are between RM26 to RM158 nett. For the menu, please see here.

  2. I like lamb, especially in winter when it is cold. It can be quite rich and heavy in warm weather. We just made harira soup and it was so delicious! :D
