Novotel KL's Banana Leaf Rice Promotion

From August until December 2015, treat yourself to Novotel KL's banana leaf rice promotion, featuring Nasi Dagang, Nasi Briyani and Nasi Kerabu. For RM25 nett, you can choose from one of the three varieties, which is inclusive of one refill of non-alcoholic beverage.

Nasi Dagang is a traditional meal originating from Terengganu and Kelantan which literally means "Trading Rice". The lightly steamed soft white and brown rice is served with flavorful ikan tongkol (tuna fish)  slow cooked in curry sauce, keropok and pickled pineapple.

Nasi Kerabu is another famous dish originating from Kelantan, with the distinctive blue rice naturally dyed blue with bunga telang (Blue Pea Flower). The steamed rice is served with a side of grated coconut flakes, mixed with aromatic bunga kantan (torch ginger flower) and is accompanied by salted egg, keropok, and ayam percik, fried chicken marinated in a tantalizing thick gravy.

The popular Nasi Briyani is served with tangy pickled fruits, mutton briyani and crispy papadom crackers. The rice is fragrant from the use of Asian spices.

We also tried the cake of the month for August, Kurma Choco Fudge, served with Creme Anglaise. You can enjoy the cake with a cup of coffee or tea for RM20 nett. We like that the cake was not too sweet and is lovely eaten with the light cream.

The banana leaf rice promotion is available for both lunch and dinner at The Square restaurant.

Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside and Rotary Club of Metro Kuala Lumpur were recently in Port Dickson to clean up the beach just outside the Port Dickson Royal Yacht Club in conjunction with World Oceans Day. Held every June 8th, the World Oceans Day theme this year is aimed at reducing the use of plastic bags which will in turn reduce the amount of plastic trash in our seas.

A group of about 100 children from SRKT Ladang Kerling and Refugee Camp in Sentul were invited on the trip by the Rotary Club of Metro Kuala Lumpur together with about 20 hotel staff from the Accorhotels group, such as Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside, Pullman Bangsar KL and Ibis Styles Fraser Business Park.

The aim in organizing the beach clean up was to educate and create awareness among the children on preserving the environment. Hotel staff explained about the impact that plastic bags have on sea life in the ocean, for example turtles may mistake the plastic bags as jelly fish for food. Both children and adults went in separate groups to pick up trash such as bottle caps, styrofoam, candy wrappers, plastic bags that were found at the beach area. After the clean up, the children were treated to lunch and games courtesy of the generous Rotarians while hotel staff of Pullman Putrajaya and other Accor sister properties distributed goodie bags.

  1. I love the way that banana leaf adds so much to the flavour! I always miss rice if I haven't had it in a while.

  2. Where's the banana leaf, Indian-style? I love nasi kerabu - that would be my pick out of the three.
