Hotel Review: InterContinental Kuala Lumpur

School holidays equates to lots of fun, family staycations for us. A couple of weekends ago, we had the pleasure of staying at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur. For those looking for a hotel near KLCC, the InterContinental KL is perfect for you. Located in the vicinity of the Petronas Twin Towers and many other KL attractions, this luxury 5-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur is an excellent choice for couples, families as well as business stays.

Warm smiles greeted us as we stepped out of our car into the beautiful hotel lobby. Check-in was prompt and before long, we were heading towards our adjoining rooms on the 8th Floor. We were pleasantly surprised to find the bell man already waiting in front of our room with our bags.. talk about fast, exceptional service.

Opulent chandelier at the lobby area

Our kids face lit up when they saw the InterContinental Bears there to greet them.. a beary warm welcome indeed! There was also a lovely chocolate and macaron platter as well as fruit bowl in each room. Fantastic start to our staycation.

There are a total of 473 stylishly designed guest rooms to choose from, ranging from Deluxe Room to Club InterContinental Rooms to several categories of luxurious suites.

We stayed in the newly refurbished Grand Premier Room, a very spacious room at 42 sq m and is luxuriously appointed. I particularly liked the super king sized bed in our room. I would usually sleep with both kids during staycations, so having a large bed is a huge plus point. Furthermore, the beds are super comfortable for a good night's sleep. The bed is topped with Cosy Dreamz pillows, and they also offer a pillow menu; choose from microfiber synthetic pillows (medium, soft, firm)or feather pillows (soft, firm).

You can also choose to have super twin bed arrangement

iPod docking station in every room, Premier category and above

Each room is also equipped with a sleek 40 inch flat screen Samsung LCD TV, DVD Player and iPod docking station. There is a separate bath and rain shower, which makes bathtime more enjoyable for the kids. There is also a lounge seater and a separate work desk as well as complimentary wifi in rooms and all public areas for hotel guests.

The bathroom is also elegant and super spacious

Mini bar. There is also a coffee machine for Club InterContinental room categories and above

The hotel's location is fantastic, within close proximity to Suria KLCC shopping mall and the world-famous Petronas Twin Towers, a mere 10-minutes walk away. You can also catch the complimentary shuttle service to KLCC and Bukit Bintang or hop on the Ampang Park LRT (2 mins from the hotel) to various attractions around KL such as Central Market, Little India and Chinatown.

The main event of any family staycation for us is pool time, and InterContinental KL's pool area on Level 5 is beautifully landscaped. There are 3 pools here with differing depths, 0.8m and 1.0m for the kids and a 1.2m adult pool, which I find to be very family-friendly, so a big thumbs up from me!

The pool area is also well-shaded by the tall coconut trees and surrounding buildings, which means you can literally spend all day at the pool. The pool is open from 7am to 9pm daily. A complimentary yoga class is available on Thursdays from 6-7pm by the poolside.

There is also a fitness centre as well as Sompotan Spa, located on the same level.

Club InterContinental room and suite categories can enjoy access to the Club InterContinental Lounge, a newly renovated and elegant space on Level 26 which serves Daily breakfast (6.30am to 10.30am), English Afternoon Tea (3pm to 5pm) and evening cocktail with appetizers (5.30pm to 7.30pm) and refreshments all day. Children are allowed into the lounge, except during evening cocktail and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Kids were particularly mesmerised by the illuminated jellyfish at the lounge entrance.

For breakfasts, you can enjoy breakfast a la carte or choose from the buffet spread

The hotel has five F&B outlets, namely Serena Brasserie (all-day dining and buffet), Tao Chinese Cuisine (Chinese food and dim sum), Tatsu Japanese Cuisine, OneSixFive (afternoon tea and cocktails), and Bentley's Pub.

Serena Brasserie - the hotel's all day dining restaurant, which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet featuring a wide range of local and International cuisine. They do a great seafood buffet dinner on Fri and Sat as well as a Sunday brunch buffet which is great for families.

    1. Yes our kids got to take home the bears ;) Btw to answer your other question, the hotel gifts the bears to selected guests, otherwise it is also available for purchase at their gift shop.

  5. I don't know what looks better, the hotel room or all those delicious plates of food. It looks like you really hit the jackpot with this stop. Usually some of these higher end hotels aren't the most accommodating for kids, but it looks like this place really goes out of their way to make the whole family happy.
