Grab, Menara UOA, Bangsar, KL

Grab was brought to market as a purveyor of coffee and has evolved in its seven months of operation to fulfill requests from its customers, offering breakfast and lunch options. They also operate a brew bar from 3-6pm.

We were recently invited here to check out their offerings. Hubby started off with a cold brew (RM12 per bottle), which is made from Ethiopia Konga Beans (tasting notes: black tea, fruity, vanilla, peaberry). The cold press process takes about 4-5 hours.

Since I am not a coffee drinker, I went for the iced chocolate (RM9). They also serve Smooshies here, as well as gourmet tea from Harney & Sons.

Their menu consists of breakfast items, sandwiches, wraps, croissants, pizzas and salads, as well as some daily specials such as pasta and roasted chicken. We tried some of their bestselling items such as the chunky chicken and mushroom pizza (RM12.90), which was served on a crispy paratha base, Grab club sandwich (RM13.90) with turkey ham, fried egg, cheese, lettuce and tomato as well as the egg and cheese croissant (RM9.90).

What really impressed us were the macarons, some of the best we've tried in KL in terms of texture. They come in several flavours such as salted caramel, Pink lady, matcha and adzuki, pistachio and summer love (mixed berry). Reasonably priced at RM3.80 per piece.

Ma-ma-ma Macarons

Hubby also tried the hand brew coffee (RM15) made with Tanzania beans (tasting notes: black tea, herbs) as well as the affogato (RM12.50) - he really enjoyed the affogato and commented that it was a nice size as well. :)

Opening times: Monday to Fridays only 8am to 8pm. Closed on weekends.

Parking rate: RM4 for first hour, RM3 subsequent hour.

Afternoon Tea @ IVIV (OneSixFive) Lounge & Bar, InterContinental KL

After checking in at InterContinental KL for our staycation, we headed down to IVIV (OneSixFive) Lounge & Bar for a spot of afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is available daily from 2pm to 5pm at the elegant lounge fringed by a tropical garden and a cascading waterfall.

Guests can choose to have either the Selera Afternoon Tea, which features a Malaysian influenced menu or the Royal Afternoon Tea, for a traditional English afternoon tea experience. Each set is priced at RM87.50 nett and comes with a pot of tea.

I went for the organic lychee tea from Japan, while Hubby went for the Panettone, named in honour of the classic Italian cake. I was advised that they will soon cease serving these teas and will be serving a range of TWG teas.

The Selera Afternoon Tea showcases sesame and plain scones, served with Devonshire clotted cream and fresh preserves and pastries such as durian éclair, mango panna cotta with mango sago, kuih lapis lamington, red bean and chocolate opera and egg tart with pineapple carpaccio. From the savouries, you can find mini rendang beef burgers, chicken satay pao and tuna and avocado 'kuih paiti', lamb samosa with mango chutney, and butter prawn saffron roll.

On the other hand, the Royal Afternoon Tea selection includes raisin and plain scones, also served with Devonshire clotted cream and fresh preserves as well as pastries such as lemon meringue tart, caramel éclairs, hazelnut and tonka bean macaron, chocolate and pistachio opera and green tea creme brulee. We also enjoyed the savouries; crab rémoulade roll, smoked salmon and caviar crostini, lobster and asparagus bagel, Peking duck roll and wagyu beef tartare brioche. Both sets are good, however if I was to choose a favorite, I would go for the Royal Afternoon Tea.

Nice view from the lounge

Yulek Wan Tan Mee 友力云吞面, Cheras, KL

A few weekends ago, we had mad cravings for wantan mee.... so when morning came, I said to Hubby "Let's go hunting for a good plate of wantan mee".

We ended up at Yulek Wantan Mee in Taman Cheras; we used to patronise them when they were still located in Restoran Meng Shiang just down the road. Recently, they were also ranked as the #2 best wantan mee in Malaysia by popular TV food show, HoChak!.

We made a mistake of going for grocery shopping first and then turning up here on a Sunday morning at 11am. If you come here on weekends, be prepared to wait - we waited for almost 45 minutes for our order. The owner will come to your table to take your order.

We were sat right at the front of the restaurant, so caught some kitchen action :)

Take photos while waiting... kids patiently waiting for their noodles

You can choose from various toppings such as char siew, siew yuk, braised chicken feet and pork ribs. You can also order side dishes such as sui kow and fried wantans. Hubby went for the siew yuk wantan mee (RM7) and the rest of us went for wantan mee with char siew (RM5.50).

It was certainly worth the wait as the noodles were excellent. Love the delicious dark sauce that coats the springy noodles. Do remember to ask for the "pun fei sau 半肥瘦" (half lean half fat) char siew as it literally melts in the mouth and is so tender. Each serving of wantan noodles comes with a small bowl of soup with three pork wantans.

Hubby's siew yuk was nice and crispy too

Baby C's plate - Lean but still tender.

I got the half fat hat lean char siew... woohoo!

Will definitely return for this!

Opening times: 7.30am to 4pm. Closed on alternate Tuesdays.

Service: Good and friendly.

Price: Total bill RM28.50, including 3 drinks.

Location: Yulek Wan Tan Mee, 19 Lorong Durian, Taman Cheras, 56100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
