Hotel Review: Awana Hotel, Genting Highlands

During our recent trip to Genting Highlands, we stayed at Awana Hotel. This is actually our second time staying here as a family. This 5-star hotel is set next to the lush rainforest and has a world-class golf course. It is conveniently located near Gohtong Jaya, and is a 5 to 10 minute bus ride away from the Genting Skyway (cable car).

Tower Wing where most of the rooms are located. There are also one room condo and suites.

We stayed in the superior deluxe room which can comfortably fit a family of 4 as there are 2 queen sized beds in the room. Interior is quite basic, however rooms are large and clean. There is a flat screen TV (with Cartoon Network channel) along with a large work desk, as well as a smaller dining table at the side. There is also a bathtub with shower. Please note that there are no safes in the room, however they offer this facility at the front desk should you require. There is also no WIFI in the room, however you will be able to access it in the lobby area.

We love the view from our room.... enjoy the beautiful sunrise and cool crisp air.

Golf course

We also love the pool area.... a big plus point is that the pools are heated.  There is an adult pool, which gradually increases in depth from 0.8m. There is also a children's pool here.

So relaxing by the pool side!

There are 3 restaurants here at Awana. Rajawali is their all day dining restaurant, where we had our breakfast - the selection is pretty good, though the crowd can get overwhelming as this hotel is pretty popular.

We also had breakfast at the Golf Terrace on another morning - a much more peaceful setting with views of the golf course.

On our first night, we had dinner at Flavours Cafe. There was steak on the menu - tenderloin for RM38, which I had with mashed potato, sauteed vegetables and black pepper sauce. To be honest, I did not have high expectations, however when I took my first bite, I have to say I was super impressed. The meat was tender, and nicely cooked to medium rare. I was told that they used Australian beef,  however server didn't know if it was grain or grass fed. Overall, I would say it's very good value for money!

Cheesy nachos (RM15) for the kids

Tenderloin for under RM40.... and it's excellent too!

Hubby had the Simply Fresh hamburger (RM26) - which consisted of 200g of fresh ground beef and Wagyu lard, Gruyere cheese, gherkins and chips. Nice and juicy as well!

For desserts, we had the carrot cake and chocolate brownie. Carrot cake was good, but chocolate brownie tasted more like chocolate cake. RM10 each.
