New Menu @ Delicious, Bangsar Village II, KL

Delicious is a well-established casual eatery in Malaysia, serving a wide variety of dishes from across the culinary landscape under one roof. There are 7 Delicious outlets in Klang Valley (Bangsar Village II, MidValley, Dua Residency, One Utama, Setia City Mall, St Mary Place and Sunway Pyramid), 1 in Penang (Straits Quay) and 1 in Johor Bahru (City Square Mall).

Recently, Delicious have undergone a menu revamp and we were invited to lunch by The Delicious Group's CEO, Steve Allen at their Bangsar outlet. This outlet is spacious and brightly lit, and their signature bird-cages hang from the ceilings as part of their decor.

We start off with The Delicious Iced Tea (RM8.90), which is made from strawberries, mint and English Breakfast tea. Very delicious, as its name suggests ;) We are both fans of hummus, and the hummus here is blended with caramelised onions and served with Lebanese bread. This combo definitely works for me, as I like the sweetness from the onions.

We sampled two new salad additions to the menu, the Long Beans, Snow Peas & Sundried Tomato Salad (RM23.90) and Crispy Soft Shell Crab with Som Tam Salad (RM27.90). Both are pretty light with lots of interesting textures and flavours. When I took my first bite of the som tam salad, I found it really spicy (I might have bitten into a cili padi straight away!) but this salad really grew on me. I especially like the lime dressing, very appetizing and I kept going back for more. What's really nice is that you get an actual (large-ish) soft shell crab and not a small crab with lots of batter. I also like the presentation of the som tam salad in the banana's heart (jantung pisang). Hubby enjoyed the long beans, snow peas and sundried tomato salad which is dressed in a creamy aioli and crunchy pistachios. All the vegetables are either raw or lightly blanched so it retains its crunchy texture. At the same time, we were served another drink - the Passion fruit Yogurt Crush (RM11.90) - made with blended fresh fruits, ice and fat-free yogurt.

Next, we tried two "Chef's Recommended" sandwiches - the Delicious Club Sandwich (RM26.90) and Chicken Avocado Wrap (RM24.90). I prefer the latter, which contains poached chicken breast, basil pesto mayo, butterhead lettuce and creamy avocado. The Club Sandwich was simple but good (and healthy too!) - made from grilled chicken, pesto, turkey bacon, fried egg and tomatoes on toasted brioche.  Both are served with a side salad and crispy potato wedges.

Lunch so far has been pretty light and healthy so far, then the carbs arrive. The chicken kapitan (RM24.90) here was pretty good and it was one of Hubby's favorite dishes that afternoon. It was served with rice, acar rampai and keropok. Another interesting dish that we tried is the pork-free bak kut teh. Over here at Delicious, it is called the beef short ribs herbal soup (RM27.90), served with bak choi, soba noodles, and shiitake mushrooms. The beef short ribs have been braised until tender and falling off the bone.

I asked Steve what their bestselling cake is at Delicious and he tells us it is the banana caramel cake (RM12.90). We loved it too, it was moist with delicious layers of caramel cream. We also tried one of their signature cakes, the coconut cake with fresh coconut filling (RM12.90). This was my favorite one, the texture reminded me of the pandan layer cake which I love as a kid, except this one's made with coconut goodness. The kids love the salted caramel chocolate cake (RM12.90).
