Ramadan Bazaar 2013 @ Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras, Selangor

Ramadan Bazaars - don't you just love them? Not only can we find a huge variety of local food here, we love taking in the sights and smells, as well as the friendly faces of the vendors (whom all very sportingly posed for photos for us too). For the past two years, we have been taking our kids to the Pasar Ramadan in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras.

There are at least 50 stalls here set-up here this year, with local specialities such as ayam percik, ayam madu, grilled chicken wings, assam laksa, lauk pauk, satay, ikan bakar, murtabak, kerang/lala, otak-otak, sup power, rojak pasembur, popiah, laksa utara, kuih-muih and colourful drinks. I was happy to see that many stalls took the initiative to put up prices for their items now.

I shall keep this short and sweet, but do enjoy the shots that we took at the Ramadan bazaar last week - or better still, pay a visit to enjoy some local food at affordable prices.

Satay man

Chicken wings

Kerang (clams)

Ikan bakar (grilled fish on banana leaves)

Murtabak

Lauk-pauk

The lovely ladies from Warong Kaklong that I frequent - bought the assam laksa here, very nice!

Popiah

Ayam goreng berempah

Nasi ayam

Otak-otak

Colorful drinks

Kuih tepung pelita

Some kuih-muih that we bought, kids were particularly keen on the onde-onde this year

Lemang and beef rendang (RM6)

Ayam goreng berempah - very tender (RM3)

Mmmmmm yummy :)

Assam laksa - superb!

On another visit, we tried several more items from this bazaar. Looks like a few shops close on Sundays, we couldn't get the assam laksa from the stall we went to the last time, but the alternative stall was very good too. We also tried the nasi kerabu, the blue rice served with some salad, ikan masin (salted  fish), salted duck;s egg, pickles and some other condiments. Not forgetting some cucur udang, ayam goreng berempah (from the Belimbing Corner stall), some kuih including one which tasted like mochi with a peanut filling.. (the name is either cipka or picka - forgotten the name but we got it from the same shop that we got the cucur udang) and lemang with beef rendang.

A Ramadan feast

Cucur udang (RM1)

Some kuih and mochi-like thing with peanut filling (cipka or picka - RM1 each)

Assam laksa (RM3.50)

Lemang and beef rendang (RM6)

Nasi kerabu (RM5)

Ayam goreng berempah (RM5)

On another visit, we picked up some sambal cencaru, gulai kawah, assam laksa, ayam goreng berempah - all for just RM19. Tastes so good!

  2. Haven't been to any for a few years now - simply too many and any Tom, Dick or Harry would set up stalls selling not very nice stuff. I'd just cook my own...or go to the familiar shops to get what I want.

  14. Dear Baby Sumo,

The ayam goreng berempah and chicken wings look good but I'll give the nasi kerabu a miss. Also, since when did boiled egg find its way into assam laksa? What is sup power, tongkeng and pedal??
