Old Meets New: The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur & Contango

Hubby and I are both huge fans of the YTL Hotels & Resorts, from the gorgeous beach resorts Pangkor Laut Resort and Tanjong Jara Resort, to the serene Cameron Highland Resorts. They also operate Gaya Island Resort and The Majestic Malacca which we have yet to visit. We were very excited to visit the brand new Majestic Hotel in KL!

The Bar in the Majestic Wing

The gold-leafed domed ceiling is an original feature of the historic hotel

1st December marks the opening of another classic hotel by YTL, The Majestic Kuala Lumpur which has been restored to its former glory and some. The Majestic KL is also the only hotel in KL to be included in "The Leading Hotels of the World" (LHW) luxury hotel collection, putting it in the company of some of the best hotels in the world including The Ritz London, The Pierre in New York City and Hotel le Bristol in Paris.

Colonial Cafe in the Majestic wing, offering traditional colonial fare created by Hainanese chefs

The elegant Tea Lounge in the Majestic wing, where one can enjoy English Afternoon Tea with a Malaysian twist (definitely coming back for this!)

In addition to the restoration of the iconic heritage Hotel Majestic building, a brand new 15-storey contemporary wing has been added alongside the original hotel featuring a grand ballroom and many more rooms, as well as Contango, a luxuriously designed contemporary restaurant featuring open kitchens with a wide variety of cuisine. Contango also features a wine cellar that holds 2000 bottles including a vertical collection of the famous Opus One wines created through a collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi. Guests were also treated to an amazing performance by celebrated band, The Mills Brothers at the roof top garden after the meal.

We love the elegant decor of the rooms as well as the restaurants. A very beautiful hotel in KL :)

The Premier Suite in the new Tower Wing - decadently furnished (we love the decor here)

Lovely bathrooms too

So lovely that Hubby wanted to take a photo here! ;)

The Mills Brothers with Elmer Hopper puts on a great show

Thanks to Tracy Khee of YTL for the kind invitation to visit your brand new hotel in KL! And many congratulations on the re-opening of this beautiful iconic hotel.

  2. YTL? Oooo...only for the rich & famous. Looks kinda new and modern in your pics though. Saw in somebody's blog earlier - more along the same lines as E&O Penang or Raffles Singapore.

  17. I'm glad that YTL restored our family's legacy, but sad that they got the history wrong.
