Tanjung Tualang Fish Head Restaurant, Sri Petaling, KL

Tanjung Tualang Fish Head Restaurant was recommended to me by one of my readers, KC. The location in Sri Petaling was not too far from our home, so we decided to try out this restaurant last week. The restaurant serves home-style Chinese fare. It is also air-conditioned, hence dining here is pretty comfortable.

Signature Steam Tilapia Fish

Fish tank at the front, kept the kids entertained before our food arrived

Alright fishy, be prepared to be my dinner tonight! LOL

Food service here is good, and I like the fact that the lady who took our order was not pushy and didn't try to get us to order their more "expensive" items (a lot of Chinese dai chow seem to do that).

Specially for the kids, we ordered the signature homemade beancurd (RM8) which was served in a sizzling hotplate. It was served with carrots, mushrooms, egg and sugar snap peas. I thought this was very reasonably priced, the beancurd was smooth, and I enjoyed drenching my rice with the gravy.

Although this restaurant's name indicates their specialty is fish head, they also various other types of live fish such as soong yee (carp), cod fish, river patin, catfish, black tilapia and tilapia. You can choose the cooking style, from steam with ginger, steam with soy sauce, deep fried Thai style, deep fried, sweet and sour sauce and signature steam. Initially, we wanted to choose the black tilapia, but we were told that they are usually above 1kg (which would be too big for us). Hence we went for the red tilapia, cooked with their signature sauce.

The fish was fresh and did not have muddy smell. The sauce is a little like "cheong ching" sauce - the spiciness was very mild so it's suitable for the kids. And the bits you see at the side of the fish is crispy pork lard a.k.a. chee yau char. At first, I wasn't sure about the pork lard, but when I ate a spoonful of fish with the sauce topped with a crispy pork lard, it was really good.  Before I knew it, it was all gone!

Lots of crispy pork lard

Bad for the waist, but yummy. LOL

The kids enjoyed the fish very much!

Recently, we're addicted to claypot brinjal, we order it without fail everytime we go to Big Tree Lin Kee. The claypot brinjal (RM8) here was pretty good, less oil (better for those who are health conscious) but not as flavorful as Lin Kee's. But nevertheless, we enjoyed this.

We placed a late order for the secret recipe fried pork intestine (RM15) since we were still feeling peckish. I could detect five spice powder in there. Deep fried until crispy, this was quite good. There was 2 different intestines, one the tubes and the other one was with some meat. I prefer the tube ones because they did not have the "sou" smell associated with offals and such. These pork intestines were served with sweet sauce.

The most surprising thing was both kids enjoyed this, particularly Daniel. I think he had about 6 pieces!!
