Cinnamon Coffee House @ One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya

I was recently invited to Cinnamon Coffee House in One World Hotel to try out their cakes. Before our cake feast, we were treated to the buffet dinner being served in the same restaurant.

When I arrived at the restaurant, the first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful glass decor hanging from the ceiling. The bubble-shaped glass has been custom made, giving the restaurant a sophisticated look. There is also an outdoor dining area with water features and bamboo plants, where you can dine alfresco style should you wish.

It really is very pretty, isn't it?

The first thing that greets you as you walk in the restaurant is the colorful dessert display. There were many desserts on offer, but I only tried a few since we were getting a cake tasting session after the buffet. The honey dew jelly was pretty good but my favorite from this section was probably the mini profiteroles.

Some small bites or bite-size appetizers are laid out in a very creative manner, singly on spoons and placed through a glass stand. My favorite was the smoked salmon topped with capers.

Cinnamon Coffee House offers both local and International cuisine, where you will find buffet lines and also live cooking stations. As with hotel buffets, the choices here is vast - salads, cheese, pasta, Japanese food, soup, satay, rojak, steamboat, dim sum, and Indian food, just to name a few.

Pastas are freshly cooked to order at one of their live cooking stations. Choose from various types of pasta such as squid ink and spinach, and customize your own sauce. Within minutes, the chef will whip up your pasta dish for you.

The food at the buffet lines have been decorated in an attractive and colorful manner to arouse the diners. From the Western section, I tried the grilled chicken with mushroom sauce; the chicken was tender and the sauce flavorful.

Some local vegetables, including petai (stink beans) and acar

Bread in various forms. There are also two types of homemade Western soups available and a Chinese double boiled soup at the dim sum section.

A specially dedicated counter for Japanese food, where you can get sushi, sashimi, cold soba, and various appetizers. The sushi is made to order and the sashimi is freshly sliced upon request. During our visit, salmon, tuna and butterfish was available. The salmon sashimi is of decent quality and I helped myself to quite a few pieces. Tempura is served in a different section, at the other end of the restaurant.

When I was going around taking photographs of the food, this particular dish, Seabass with Tom Yum Sauce, caught my attention right away. A whiff of this dish and I was sold. It was so tantalizing and just made my mouth water. Thankfully, it lived up to my expectations. Slightly sweet and spicy, it was wonderfully appetizing.

There is also a noodles "live cooking station". The noodle of the day changes daily; during our visit it was Penang Prawn Mee. Though not comparable to the authentic Penang version, the soup was tasty enough to make this a worthwhile dish to try.

Cool down with some ais kacang or ice-cream before you hit the desserts counter!

Other than the buffet dinner, Cinnamon Coffee House also serves afternoon tea between 3-6pm daily and cakes all day long. There is a "Deli Counter Special Offer' whereby all breads and cakes at the counter is sold at 50% discount after 3.00pm daily (RM12++ per slice before discount). That's a really great deal if you ask me.

We tried a total of 11 flavours that evening. Overall, the cakes were not too sweet. Three of my favorite flavours were the Petit Antone, red velvet and carrot cake. The Petit Antone had a rich hazelnut and chocolatey flavour, and reminded me very much of Ferrero Rocher. The red velvet cake was one of the better ones I have eaten lately; I like it since it was moist and had two thick layers of cream cheese frosting (almost as thick as the actual cake). The carrot cake was also pretty moist with bits of nuts in it.
