Food Garden, The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur

If you ever find yourself on a tight food budget in The Gardens Mall, you can still have an affordable and tasty meal at the Food Garden. Food Garden is The Garden's version of a food court, whereby multiple food vendors set up in a common area, you walk around and if you like what you see, you place your order with the particular vendor and carry your own food to a table in the common dining area.

In my opinion, Food Garden is one of the nicer looking food courts in KL and is quite spacious, unlike most food courts, whereby the dining area can be quite cramped in order to maximise the usage of space. This arrangement allows diners to dine in comfort in a nice ambience.

How does the food here fare?

I had the Pineapple Fried Rice set (RM9.90) from Lanna Thai, a stall serving Thai cuisine. The Pineapple Fried Rice is their bestseller since their opening in January 2009. The Pineapple Fried Rice on its own is already RM7.50 so it makes sense to go for the set, as you will also get a mango salad, tom yum soup and a slice of watermelon.

Served in a halved hollowed out pineapple, the rice was stir fried with raisins, prawns, long beans, eggs, turmeric and of course, pineapple chunks. It was very tasty and fragrant. The portion was huge as well, but I managed to finish it all on my own as it was very good.

The tom yum soup was tangy and spicy, with the aroma of lemongrass being quite distinct.

The mango salad was appetizing, owing to the sour young mango used.

Hubby on the other hand, had Black Pepper Beef with Fried Rice (RM7.00) from Mini Wok. The beef was rather tender, so no complains from Hubby.

For desserts, we shared a Ice Mango Special (RM5.00) from the Sweet Temptation stall, shaved ice topped with mango puree and chunks and vanilla ice-cream. Refreshing and sweet!

Other food available here are Korean cuisine, kebabs, chicken rice, Penang food, Japanese bento, claypot noodles, prata and teppanyaki.

  9. Oh, really affordable and the portion is very generous too. A good alternative for people with a budget, as you said.

  10. Small Kucing: Can you believe that I finished it all? :P

zoe: Well, at least the food here is better than some other "high class" restaurant on the same floor... expensive and not nice.
