Prime, Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur

Prime prides itself in serving only the finest imported beef..

Hubby and I both enjoy a good steak from time to time. I have read many good things about the steaks at Prime in Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, so this week, we made our way there for lunch.

To sample what a restaurant has to offer, we feel that the lunch menu offerings are usually a good place to start. They are often priced very reasonably as well. At Prime, there is a 2-course Express Set Lunch menu priced at RM60++ or the Prime Business Set Lunch (2- or 3-course) at RM70++ and RM85++ respectively.

This week's menu appealed to us as we like our steaks simply grilled and not dressed up (ie with herb crusts etc). So, if you're fussy with your beef like we are, then it is advisable to check their online menu before going.

The restaurant's decor is sleek and tasteful. Wine and champagne bottles adorn the floor-to-ceiling decorative walls. While waiting for our food, we watched the kitchen staff in action in the open kitchen. Service here is attentive and efficient.

Off to a flying start...

We were served two types of freshly baked bread, with three types of butter. The brown walnut bread was excellent, still warm to the touch when served. So good, we couldn't resist asking for seconds. The cheese/black pepper bread is also good, but we found it to be a little overpowering when the black pepper kicked in. The butters are worth a special mention, rich and creamy, my favorite being the salted butter.

Hubby's starter of Asian Style Salmon Ceviche was definitely the best looking dish of the day. So pretty to look at, plus it tasted amazing too. Ceviche means that the raw salmon had been marinated in citrus juices. His tastebuds went zing! zing! zing! from all the different flavours. The dish was tangy and appetizing from the citrus and tomato, and the avocado was wonderfully creamy.

It deserves top marks for presentation

My Morel Flavoured Beef Consommé was served in a teapot and poured over the slivers of lightly seared kobe chuck and tapioca leave parcel. A delicate clear soup which I savoured until the last drop.

A beef lover's dream..

For mains, we both ordered the Charcoal Grilled Beef Tournedos served with a creamy spinach, spiced pumpkin quenelle and truffle foie gras sauce, cooked medium (for me) and medium rare (for Hubby).

It was a hearty chunk of meat.

My happy endorphins came out to play..

A smile formed on my face as I took my first bite of the steak. Boy it was good! If this was what they were serving for their set lunch, imagine how the premium beef cuts off their a la carte menu would taste.

The meat was grilled to perfection, and was juicy and tender. We relished every bite we took. The mashed pumpkin and cream spinach were a lovely accompaniment to the spectacular steak.

Good food evokes happiness..

By the time we finished our mains, we had smiles as wide as a Cheshire cat's. Time for desserts. Hubby had the Upside Down Fuji Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice-Cream and it was delicious.

I had the White Coffee Panna Cotta with Butter Scotch Sauce and Crispy Almond Bars. This was one of the better desserts I've eaten this year. Eaten on it's own, the panna cotta already tasted great. Eaten together with the rich butterscotch cream, the panna cotta was elevated to another level altogether.

Illy coffee or Dammann Tea is included with the set lunch. Enjoy with some complimentary chocolate chip cookies.

What a fabulous meal! We will definitely be back for more.

The above set menu is available from 11th to 22nd October 2010. Menu at Prime changes every 2 weeks.

Verdict: The steaks here were outstanding. Prime definitely lived up to its reputation as the best steak restaurant in KL.

  1. I'm glad the photos of the Grilled Beef Tournedos turned out so well, this meat tasted truly amazing on the day. I will definitely return for more. I would also like to recreate somewhere near this level of steak at home. Can anybody recommend where to get good beef in KL other than our current source Cold Storage ?

  10. Luv their steak to bits and sceptical that anyone else can replicate this experience in kl.

There were people raving about the cuts at las vacas, kelana jaya. Maybe that might come close to having a steakilicious experience at home.
