Adventure Waterpark, Desaru Coast Malaysia

Desaru Coast Malaysia is home to one of the biggest waterparks in the world, Adventure Waterpark. Covering over 25 acres, the waterpark features a unique mix of wet and dry rides, with over 20 rides, slides and attractions, offering a splashing great time for everyone.

Set against the backdrop of a traditional Malaysian fishing village, Adventure Waterpark is home to unique rides including the first-ever water coaster in the region and one of the biggest wave pools in the world.

The park is open from 10am to 6pm daily and consists of 5 splash-tacular zones to explore, namely Penawar Falls, Penawar River, Shipwreck Reef, Tidal Wave Beach and Kids Ahoy. Come in your beach or swimwear, and be sure to drink lots of water to hydrate and apply sunblock.

We started off our adventure at The Tempest, which is possibly one of the most thrilling rides in the waterpark. Talk about starting off on a high, literally. The Tempest features a 55-foot tube slide with a funnel in the middle, sending riders on a swirling vortex before descending. The kids enjoyed it so much, they went on it three times in a row!

Riptide, which is located right next to The Tempest, is equally thrilling. Riptide will sweep riders at the steepest angles and fastest speeds giving an unparalleled feeling of weightlessness. Then, riders will travel downhill to enter the first twister where they slide back and forth several times before exiting into the second and third twisters and splash out into the pool.

At Penawar River, you will also find the exhilarating Wild Whirl and Super Twister water rides. For these rides, our kids were able to ride on their own if they wanted to.

Kraken's Revenge, the region's first-ever water coaster is a must-visit. It is a combination of a roller coaster and splashing flume ride that takes thrill seekers up to 30 metres above ground before swooping and spinning through a full 360-degree horizontal loop. Then, it takes a 27-metre drop to the shipwrecking Kraken sea monster waiting in the pool of water below. One of the boys favourite rides.

For the younger ones, Kids Ahoy is dedicated children's zone with three separate age appropriate play areas filled with water play equipment and 13 different water slides. Our kids had a fun time here while the parents took a well-deserved break at one of the shaded benches while keeping a watchful eye.

Next, we headed to the Tidal Wave Beach, one of the biggest wave pools in the world with some of the world’s biggest man-made waves! This signature water feature spreads over nearly three acres and holds more than 4 million gallons of water. All children are required to put on life jackets as the waves are pretty huge. The waves come on at every 30 minute interval for 15 minutes. There are beachside cabanas or lounge chairs which you can relax at, placed along the 170-metre long sandy shoreline of the Tidal Wave Beach.

If you've always wanted to try surfing, the Adventure Waterpark has a Surf Wall, a high-energy surf simulator where riders can try to catch and ride the artificial wave until they wipe out. One of the friendly staffs here can give you some helpful pointers.

When you need a break, climb onto one of the large floats and just enjoy a lazy ride around the 350 metre long Penawar River. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of hornbills from the area.

The kids also enjoyed some of the dry attractions such as archery, arcade-style games and the Swinging Ship.

You will also find five food and beverage outlets here such as Surf's Up Juice Bar, The Galley Snack Bar, The River Grill, Kelong Eatery and Octo-Bites Cafe.  Fuel up with a burger, pizza or local delights.

Overall, we had a great fun-filled family day out at Adventure Waterpark. Do check out some of our favourite moments in the YouTube video below.
