a'Roma Dinings, Taman Paramount, PJ

a'Roma Dinings is family-run restaurant in Taman Paramount, PJ serving authentic Italian cuisine. The restaurant interior is welcoming and has obviously been well-thought out. A mural of the Colosseum in Rome, handpainted by a local artist group and an attractive bar area overlooks the dining area, setting a casual ambiance for diners. Other than the main dining area, a'Roma Dinings also has a wine lounge, for those who want to chill with a glass of wine or beer.

a'Roma Dinings' dinner menu features antipasti, homemade pasta, ham and cheeses from Italy, risotto and more.  They also offer an affordable set lunch menu for RM29.90 nett.

While waiting for our food to arrive, we were served a crisp, thin homemade foccacia with tomato relish. To start, we were served the Brasato di Lingua di Manzo (RM47), one of the chef's recommended antipasti. This was my favorite dish of the evening - the Angus beef tongue has been braised until tender and then topped with appetizing pickled beetroot, pickled cocktail onion, baby potatoes and crispy croutons for added texture.

Next, we had the Prosciutto e Melone (RM35), a classic Italian appetizer of Parma ham and melon. In a'Roma Dinings' version, caramelised onion is added between the ham and melon. Since no cooking is required here, the ingredients has to be of good quality for the dish to shine. This dish would have been better if the melon was sweeter.

a'Roma Dinings prides themselves in their handmade pasta, which is made fresh daily in-house. They've invested in a pasta machine (according to the owner, it's the same one that Jamie Oliver uses) to produce the best pasta for their diners. You will find pasta such as bucatini, fettucine, spaghettini, pappardelle and casarecce. One of their most popular pasta dishes is the casarecce alla puttanesca (RM38), which is pasta topped with slow braised pork cheek, sauteed bacon, mushrooms and Parmesan cheese. The casarecce had a lovely bite to it, complemented well by the rich sauce.

For dessert, we had the semi freddo di cioccolato (RM23) which is made using 75% dark chocolate, and served with orange and strawberry segments. The dessert was nice, - rich and sinful, however we thought the texture resembled Nama chocolate more than a semifreddo. Grab a cup of coffee once you have finished your meal, they serve a good cup of coffee here, using DeGayo coffee beans. They also serve premium Harvey & Sons tea here.

Serves Pork.
