Riverboat Thai Restaurant, Taman Desa, KL

For Mother's Day celebration this year, we went to Riverboat in Taman Desa for some Thai food. We invited my parents to join us and we thoroughly enjoyed the food here.

The restaurant is air-conditioned with simple decor. The two-page menu is categorised into vegetables, meat, seafood, boat noodles, fast food, as well as desserts - all reasonably priced. I ordered 5 dishes for us to share.

The first dish to arrive is the Riverboat clams in Thai sauce (RM16.90). They use live clams (you can see them in the aquarium in the live kitchen) - not too sure what variety they were (I think they are lokan clams), but boy, they were huge! The steamed meaty clams are topped with a delicious, mildly spicy Thai sauce. We spooned up all the sauce to eat with steamed rice. To our surprise, Baby D loved the clams a lot and ended up eating two out of the six clams.

Thai milk tea (RM3.90)

We were tempted to order the tom yum, but decided upon the Green Curry Chicken (Gaeng Kiew Wan Kai - RM12.90) instead since our kids were dining with us. This proved to be an excellent choice, as the green curry was delicious, especially the sauce which resulted in us ordering extra rice. In the creamy curry are chicken slices, Thai eggplant and long beans.

For greens, we ordered my mum's favorite vegetable, kangkong. The vege was nice and tender, but portion is a bit small.

Stir fried kangkong with chilli and soy sauce (Pad Pak Bung Fai Daeng RM9.90)

We loved the BBQ Pork Neck (RM14.90), it was one of our favorite dishes of the evening. The tender pork is cooked on the charcoal fire outside the restaurant, resulting in a delicious smoky flavour. It has also been glazed with a sweet-sticky marinade, so it reminded us of eating char siu. Very very good. :)

The highlight of our meal is the BBQ Tilapia Fish (RM45). The fish is covered with a generous layer of salt and its cavity is stuffed with lemongrass and pandan leaves, and then placed over a charcoal grill. The fish takes about 45 minutes to cook, and once cooked, the top layer of salt on the skin will be peeled off. The fish was served to us with three types of condiments, lettuce, cabbage, and vermicelli. The fish was incredibly moist and we especially liked the green chilli-lime dip. Our family enjoyed this a lot.

For dessert, they only offer tub tim grob (RM4.90), mock pomegranate seeds with jackfruit and coconut. We were hoping to get some mango sticky rice, but they only serve it when they get nice, sweet mangoes. Nevertheless, this was a nice end to our meal.

Earlier that afternoon, BabySumoKids were busy in the kitchen, making a cake for our early Mother's Day celebration. They did a great job, check out the beautiful cake :)
