Hotel Review: Junior Suite @ The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Our family are big fans of YTL Hotels & Resorts, hence we were really excited to be staying at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur during Baby C's recent school holidays. Built in 1932, it was regarded as one of the grandest hotels in South East Asia and YTL has been entrusted in restoring this grande dame to its former glory and majesty.

Making friends :)

The Majestic Hotel KL is the only hotel in Kuala Lumpur to be listed as a Leading Hotels of the World (LHW), joining the ranks with other landmark hotels such as The Ritz in London. Our staycation in this classic hotel was nothing short of spectacular, we received top notch service from the moment we stepped out of our car into the lobby of The Majestic Hotel KL.

Dressed in shorts, long socks and a pith helmet to reflect the hotel's colonial past, a smiling doorman opens our car door and warmly greets us. The lobby is opulent with a gold-leaf ceiling, glittering chandelier and a gorgeous flower centrepiece. Check-in was a breeze and we were escorted to a Junior Suite on the top floor (15th Floor) of the Tower Wing for our first night stay.

The refurbished hotel is made up of the restored Majestic Wing with 48 luxurious suites and the newly-built Tower Wing with 253 plush guest rooms and suites.  There are 55 Junior Suites and rates start from RM940++ per night (inclusive of breakfast).

The room is luxuriously appointed, with an elegant four-poster bed, a decadent bathroom and a separate seating/work area. It is extremely spacious and we immediately fell in love with the interior. The room that we were allocated had the view of the KL skyline and the kids could watch the trains go past (they love it!). All rooms and suites come with complimentary WiFi.

Separate living area

The bathroom is separated with a modern glass wall, and has a large free-standing bathtub, which also converts very nicely into a "mini swimming pool" on rainy days. :) The kids had a great time soaking in the bath. There is also a separate rain shower and toilet, as well as dual vanities with Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries.

A welcome platter awaits us, filled with some local kuih-muihs which the kids enjoyed very much.

Baby C said that this is the nicest hotel room she's stayed in. :)

The kids brought along their best friends for our staycation :D

Rainy afternoon - check out the lightning

But it doesn't dampen their moods :) We can "swim" in our room too :)

Majestic Hotel KL also operate The Majestic Luxury Coach service which will bring hotel guests to Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station and Starhill Gallery in KL city.

There are 2 dining outlets in the hotel, Contango and Colonial Cafe. Contango is located in the Tower Wing and is the hotel's buffet restaurant featuring an open kitchen interactive dining concept. You can find Japanese, Malay, Thai, and Western cuisine here. There is no a la carte menu here, however there is an in-room dining menu if you prefer. At the entrance of the restaurant is a 2000-bottle wine cellar including the exclusive Opus One vertical collection, which is a collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi.

Hotel guests staying in the Tower Wing will also be served breakfast at Contango, we particularly enjoyed the warm croissants, fresh blueberries, nasi lemak and roti canai.

Colonial Cafe serves colonial cuisine and is located in the Majestic Wing of the hotel. Love the gorgeous ambiance of this restaurant and we had most of our meals here (see our full review here). In the evenings, the Soliano's family perform here for hotel guests.

The Tea Lounge and the Orchid Conservatory provides a unique ambiance for English afternoon tea with a Malaysian twist.  The Orchid Conservatory houses a seasonal range of phalaenopsis orchids in a glass atrium, a truly magnificent sight to behold. You can read more about The Tea Lounge and Orchid Conservatory here.

The Majestic Spa, part of the YTL Spa Village is housed in a double-storey annexe and the decor is greatly influenced by the distinctive style of renowned Scottish architect, designer and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh. You can read more about The Majestic spa here.

Reception desk at Tower Wing. The staff are helpful and always greet us with a smile

After breakfast, we visited the Swimming Pool on the 4th floor of the Tower Wing. There is only an adult pool here but nonetheless we enjoyed our pool time. :) There is also a gymnasium, next to the pool.

Verdict: Beautiful colonial-style hotel with luxurious rooms and excellent service.

Room rates: Tower Wing - Deluxe room starts from RM660++, Junior Suite RM940++, Grand Suite RM1360++ and RM1780++. Note that this is an invited review.
