Hotel Review: Dorsett Grand Subang, Selangor, Malaysia

Our kids love staycations and it is always a must to bring them for a hotel stay during the school holidays. We were fortunate to be invited to Dorsett Grand Subang recently to review their Executive Suite as well as the hotel's facilities and F&B outlets.

Dorsett Grand Subang is a 5-star urban resort located amongst commercial and shopping hubs such as Empire Subang, Subang Parade, Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Lagoon. It features 478 well-appointed rooms and suites with panaromic views of KL city centre. Upon arrival we were ushered up to the Premier Lounge on the 16th Floor to check-in.

After checking in, we were escorted to our suite. When we arrived at our suite, the kids were absolutely delighted to see the spacious and beautiful room which is luxuriously appointed - our home for the next 2 nights :) Most of the hotel rooms have recently undergone refurbishment, including the Executive Suites. Each suite is 67 square meters, and has a grand living area (complete with a bling bling chandelier), kitchenette, workspace, dining area, walk-in wardrobe and 2 bathrooms. Executive Suite room guests will enjoy complimentary access to the Premier Lounge.

The Executive Suite is gorgeous!

The bed was comfortable (and the blackout curtains in the room certainly helps), so all of us had a very good night's sleep. Additional beds can be requested at additional cost. The main bathroom is also very spacious, with a separate bathtub and shower. Kids enjoyed having a "morning swim/soak" in there. The shower is equipped with a powerful rain shower.

There are two 32" LCD TV in the suite - one in the bedroom and one in the living area. However, we were surprised that they did not have any kids TV channel, perhaps most of their clientèle are businessmen.

Kids love the welcome gift - a box of chocolates and fresh fruits

During our stay, we ordered room service on two separate occasions. Food quality is good and we enjoyed the privacy of dining in our suite. Baby C loved the lamb chops that I ordered for lunch, that she insisted on having it for dinner again the next day.

There are 2 pools here - the main pool and the kiddies pool. The kids love the pool here, we spent at least 4 hours in the pool everyday. Suffice to say, we were very tanned by end of our stay. :P

The Clark Hatch Fitness Centre offers upgraded cardiovascular and free weight equipment with certified personal trainers available upon request. For guests who have forgotten their fitness apparel, they also provide complimentary men's and ladies's fitness apparel. There are also men and women's steam rooms and sauna. There is also a spa in the hotel, Tanjung Wellness Spa - see our review here.

The hotel has 4 F&B outlets - Terraza Brasserie (their all-day dining restaurant), Emperor Restaurant (serving pork-free authentic Cantonese cuisine and dim sum - see my review here), Piano Lounge (for afternoon tea and drinks/evening entertainment by the resident band) and Cafe Aroma (for light meals/bites).

Guests staying in the Club Rooms or suites have access to the Premier Lounge on the 16th Floor. As long as your children are well-behaved, they are allowed in the lounge too. Guests can enjoy evening cocktails and canapes here as well as continental breakfast in the lounge. We had breakfasts here during our stay, and although the selection was small, we liked what was on offer and this breakfast venue feels more intimate. Baby D was especially happy with the yogurt and berries (blackberries, blueberries, strawberries) and the delicious pastries on offer. They also love the hot chocolate here. Eggs are cooked to order, and there are sausages, beef bacon and porridge, just to name a few.

Verdict: We had a really enjoyable stay here at Dorsett Grand Subang. The rooms are plush and spacious, and we love the swimming pool!

    1. If I'm not mistaken it used to be Sheraton many many years ago. The hotel rooms have recently been refurbished.
