Ril's Steakhouse, Jalan Tun H S Lee, KL

*This is a guest post by Baby Sumo's Hubby.

This is another "early" Mother's Day gift for babysumo (The Unc and I visited Ril's one evening in December 2012 while Yen had dinner with her friends from school , I promised to write this but until now never got round to it. So for Mother's Day I am keeping my promise and wrote this for her).

Steak Night at Ril's

Ril's is located on a side street around China Town in KL, just opposite and down a bit from the beautifully ornate Sri Mahamariamman Indian Temple.

Having dined at Ril's previously and thoroughly enjoyed the Gemas Gold bone-in rib eye, and knowing The Unc had been drooling over our Instagram and blog photographs of steak while away studying in Germany I thought I'd put him out of his misery while he visited us at Xmas and treat him to a steak night.

LivingSocial and Ril's had a deal on at the time (cash vouchers for 50% off) so for a boys night out, it was a no-brainer as far as I was concerned, we got online and ordered our vouchers and headed off to Ril's. The good thing about this deal was no prior reservations was required, hence we got to use it on the same day itself.

The Unc stared with Tuna tataki (RM28) - Slices of seared tuna with a velvety rich butter and soy reduction, served with candied cinnamon apple and a ginger chili jam

I had the Sweet potato and corn croquette (RM24) to start - The deliciously crispy croquette is served with a spicy beetroot compote and lemon crème fraiche, and topped with a fried quails egg.

It was my intention to wow The Unc with the bone-in rib eye, however on the evening we dined here it was not available (out of stock). We eventually made our choices, opting for 3 cuts to share between the two of us, all ordered to medium rare doneness:

Rib eye ladies portion (RM76 for 300g)
Filet mignon (RM98 for 350g)
Wagyu rib eye (RM168 for 300g)

The steaks were nicely cooked, with that crust which I like. My favourite piece of meat that evening was the Filet Mignon.

And for desserts, we had The Last Polka Salted Gula Melaka (RM16) and The Last Polka Guinness (RM16) ice cream. Much prefer the salted gula melaka over the Guinness.

  1. Nice place, nice food...though I would not say the same about the neighbourhood. Never too keen on that area in KL.

  3. Ah Rils. Was a bummer we didn't get to try out the Gemas Gold steak but the replacements weren't too shabby either! I enjoyed the Wagyu rib eye the most :)
