Set Lunch @ Din Tai Fung, The Gardens Mall Kuala Lumpur

When it comes to these tiny morsels called xiao long bao, my personal favorite are the ones from Din Tai Fung. Perfect texture, with a soupy meaty filling... these are just fantastic.

During weekdays (Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm), Din Tai Fung offers a set lunch menu for RM21.80++. It comes with 6 pieces of xiao long bao, one main course (choose 1 from 4 choices) and free flow Chinese tea. If you find that you still have room for desserts, just add RM4. The set lunch is pretty good value for money.

Service is efficient as always, and the restaurant is very kids friendly. Baby C was offered a kids cutlery set.

We love the chilli oil here

As always, the xiao long bao impresses. Baby C loves this, and we love it too.

As you can see, she quickly 'reserved' three for herself :)

For mains, we picked the Hot & Sour Soup La Mian -- I remember not being too impressed on the first visit with their la mian, but my perception totally changed after this bowl of FANTASTIC noodles. The soup was really good (very appetizing) and the noodles had a lovely texture.

We also picked the Vegetable Pork Dumplings La Mian for Baby C's benefit. Baby C, being a noodle connoisseur (haha she does love her noodles) gave this her thumbs up. The pork dumplings were very juicy too.

Delicious vegetable pork dumplings

Soup = pass, noodles = pass, dumplings = pass :)

For dessert, we had the Sesame Dumplings in Homemade Soya Bean -- the soya bean was not too sweet and the sesame dumpling was just the right texture.

The Golden Yam Paste Rolls was a winner too, with its smooth yam paste and crispy skin.

If I'm not mistaken, the choices for the mains vary monthly so some of the items you see here may differ from current set lunch menu since we had this sometime ago. But overall, the dishes here were satisfyingly good.

  9. Sean: I'm ashamed to say I haven't tried the xlb from those two restaurants yet. I've only had xlb in dim sum restaurants and they all failed miserably!
