The Han Room, The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur

Another long overdue post. The Gardens Mall is one of my favorite malls, hence we shop and eat here quite often. After reading several glowing reviews about The Han Room, we were drawn here for brunch one weekend morning. The Han Room was newly opened in mid January 2011 and is located at the main entrance of The Gardens Mall (near Louis Vuitton). The restaurant is one of many owned by The Oriental Group (they also own The Ming Room, Noble Banquet and The Oriental amongst others) and specialises in both classic and modern Chinese creations.

We arrived for lunch early (11am) to avoid the lunch crowd as I have seen how busy it can get during lunchtime. The restaurant is elegant and tastefully decorated and service was very pleasant.

We were offered 2 menus, the a la carte menu and dim sum menu. Dim sum is served here daily for lunch. After scrutinizing the menu, we decided to order 2 dim sum items and several items off their a la carte menu. To play it safe, we ordered the Chef Specialties / Signature Dishes.

The trio of sauce served

We started off with the 'Paku' Vegetables with Spicy Sauce (RM8), which proved to be a hit. Wonderfully refreshing and appetizing, it was quickly polished off by both me and my mum.

We moved on to a Chef Specialty, the Charcoal Grilled Spanish Pork Roll (RM16 per portion). This was one of my favorites as the Iberico pork meat was tender, juicy and very flavoursome. The pork was wrapped around some spring onion. However, the portions here are very small. Not good for a big eater like me.

Next up was the Braised Shatin Chicken stuffed with chicken liver sausage (RM16). I have to say we were awed by the tiny chicken (only slightly bigger than my palm), especially my little one. The chicken was moist, but I wasn't too keen on the chicken liver sausage. But that's just me. My mum enjoyed this as she is a fan of liver sausage. I did however enjoy the aroma of this dish, which I suspect to be Chinese rose wine. Baby C asked if she could have both the chicken wings and chicken drumsticks, which she happily devoured to the bone.

The Braised Beef Cheek (RM16) was excellent, especially the sauce which went really well with white rice. The beef was tender and juicy.

The Deep Fried Yam Puff (RM6) was crispy and quite delicious as it was served piping hot. However, 1 out of 3 had no filling at all, but it was quickly replaced with a new one.

To end the meal, we enjoyed the Baked Mini Egg Tart (RM5). You know its really good when Baby C fights you for an extra one!

  4. It's time to check this place out. Have avoided it thus far due to the crowds there. That beef cheek looks meltingly good!

  5. Today was the first time I walked past and saw this. Was expecting ridiculous prices and such, but kinda affordable from your visit. And certainly a cut above the usual Chinese diners, in terms of creativity in the execution.

  10. J2KFM: They definitely have many interesting dishes here, the only downside is that the dishes are quite small for the price you pay. Then again, it's in The Gardens.
